No trans-fats appear anywhere in the kitchen of Executive Chef Eric Spivey at WellStar Cobb Hospital. Even in his stocks, he uses only fresh ingredients–vegetables, chicken, beef or seafood. For that reason, Spivey’s selections not only make for better psychological health as patients see appetizing fare being rolled into their rooms on a cart, but this nutrition can also improve the overall strength during the person’s stay.

In 2009, Spivey began using farm fresh vegetables 100% of the time to nourish the Hospital’s residents. He understood a better quality product would produce a better tasting dish, and would ultimately promote healthier diets. No doubt, the Chef’s finesse and knowledge comes as a result of working in the Metro Area’s top restaurants, including Capital City Country Club, Atlanta Fish Market and The Last Detail. Formally educated at Johnson and Wales in Providence, Rhode Island, Spivey additionally holds an Associates degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Food Service Management.

“If you were to dine at leading restaurants that used all natural goods versus those with lessphoto 1 attention to their product, you would instantly notice the difference in your energy level and appearance,” says Executive Chef Spivey. “There just is no substitute for organic foods. That being said, it becomes much more important to serve those in a weakened physical condition superior cuisine.”

During the Taste of South Cobb on November 16th, Chef Spivey will demonstrate for patrons of the Festival how and why his menu plan is the finest. Using farm-picked items, he will create sumptuous and healthy menus for the home or the hospital.

In addition to the WellStar Cobb Patient 100% Farm Fresh Foods program, the Taste of South Cobb will feature a Taste Row, highlighting local restaurants and caterers; a Kids Corner with karaoke, South Cobb Arts Alliance’s Make It and Take It and first responders training; a First Responder’s Cook-off, when local firefighters, EMS and police engage in a food battle; Live Musical Entertainment; Constellation Brands’ Wine Tasting; and Corporate and Small Business Marketplace. The hours of the Taste are Saturday, November 16th from 11am – 6pm, with an evening concert beginning at 7pm.
